The study conducted on how dietary patterns relate to mortality in US population, following the Mediterranean diet.
Studies suggest that, men and women diet closest to the Mediterranean were 21 percent less likely to die over five years than the people whose diets were least similar to Mediterranean.
Mediterranean diet is full of food like: nuts, fish, fruits and vegetables and fewer amounts of dairy and red meat.
Also, people with cancer or cardiovascular disease were significantly at a lower risk of death. People who are regular smokers and are not overweight can have great benefits from Mediterranean diet.
Smokers who follow Mediterranean-style eating can get benefits from the antioxidant and blood fat lowering effects.
