Recent reports presented at the annual meeting of Society for the Study of Ingested Behavior found that after 6 months behavioral weight loss program, depressed patients lost 8% of their initial weight and also reported significant improvements in depression symptoms.
The results of the study mainly highlight the need for further research into effects of weight loss in person suffering from psychiatric problems.
Dr. Lucy Falconbridge, lead author of the study, says “This research is novel because clinically depressed individuals are not usually included in weight loss trials due to concerns that weight loss could worsen their depression.”
